Monks Corner
This scenic, quaint little town is the site of many historic churches, and the dam and locks of the mighty hydroelectric power plant are nearby. Mepkin Abbey, formerly a rice plantation, is a beautiful Roman Catholic monastery with a garden and chapel open to the public. Many fine examples of early rice plantations are along the rivers and are still serving as residences. Strawberry Chapel is a "chapel-of-ease" and the last remaining building of the town of Childsburg, which was a bustling town before the Civil War.
This community's relationship to the outdoors is unrivaled- hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking and horseback riding abound in the forest, lakes and streams that surround it.
